Meet fellow LBer on trail Wahoo

ahoy...whilst boxing today, we spotted a lone lady with paper in hand.
Called out the requisite "Excuse me but, which way is north?" got a
total look of "what are you a nut case". i start babbling, "i'm
looking for the north end of the park. it is that way? Babble babble
babble." meanwhile trying to read and spy on what she has in her hand.
its clues!!! i say, "i think you may want come over here. really!
you're one of us!!! after much laughter and explaining the "secret
handshake" exchanging, logging and story telling, JJ of Kensington and
CBHB lifesaver and i were off to find a box together.
don'cha luv this hobby!!!!

That's cool! I've only ever run into a Geocacher on the trails. I didn't
know about the secret handshake/passwords :( I really have to get out more.

ahoy..its not really a secret "handshake". in fact there was a whole
discussion on this very topic on the big list. its more of a silly
thing. if you suspect the person who is acting strangely/trying to be
nonchalant/pretending to take a picture/is SO very interested in a
mushroom/observing tree bark etc, you ask them. "Which way is North?"
Without hesitation and with complete and utter confidence, they point
straight up to the sky. Then you know you have met one of your own,
one of the tribe, takes one to know one, one addicted to hunting
tupperware, a kindred spirit, you have engaged a LETTERBOXER!!!! LOL

Well thank you, now I know. :) I walked up the Geocacher and asked
"So what's your Trailname?" She blushed and she was mostly a
Geocacher and hadn't officially started her letterboxing yet. I
helped her find her geocache which was across the path from my
letterbox and we both oohed over each other's finds. It was rather
pleasant and cute.

I have heard since that many geocachers will find letterboxes and
throw them away for some odd reason. I find that rather disappointing
since it's basically a different take on the same hobby. :(
